POPDROPS DVD TEMPLATES ARE LAYERED ADOBE PHOTOSHOP (.PSD) FILES
Because the files are layered Photoshop files you can load them into Photoshop and edit them (move layers, edit text, etc.) Many other software applications can also import Photoshop (.PSD) files. Refer to your software manuals for more instruction.

ADOBE ENCORE DVD USER BENEFITS WHEN WORKING WITH POPDROPS DVD TEMPLATES

The advantage of using Adobe Encore DVD with PopDrops DVD Templates is that Encore imports all the Photoshop layers intact. This allows for much of the editing features normally associated with Photoshop to be functional from within the Adobe Encore DVD interface. (see BENEFITS of ENCORE DVD clip above)

THUMBNAILS OF POPDROPS DVD TEMPLATES

ADOBE ACROBAT .PDF files of all the Volume 1 PopDrops DVD Templates designs can be found in the "Thumbnails" folder under the Volume 1 heading of the PopDrops DVD Templates CD. It is advisable that you print each page of the .PDF files to visually reference all the PopDrops DVD Templates.

WORKING WITH MENUS

DEFAULT FONTS USED WITH POPDROPS DVD MENU TEMPLATES
When opening a menu in Adobe Photoshop, you may see a message which says, "Some text layers contain fonts that are missing. These layers will need to have the missing fonts replaced before they can be used for vector based output". This simply means the specific font that PopDrops uses is not on your system. Clicking "OK" will simply lead Photoshop to replace the font style we used with a default font on your system. There is no harm in this as it's likely that you'll want to change the font style on the final design. The fonts we used are those installed by default with Adobe Encore DVD 1.0 -- the list can be found here

ADOBE ENCORE DVD RECOGNIZES THE POPDROPS DVD TEMPLATES LAYER SET NAMING CONFIGURATION
Adobe Encore DVD can import the PopDrops DVD Templates graphics and recognize all layers and button highlights without further programming. Many other DVD authoring packages also have the ability to import Photoshop (.PSD) files -- however, most import the files as flattened, non-layered graphics, thus losing the ability to edit the layers within the authoring software. In the event that you do not own Adobe Encore DVD, we recommend that you first load PopDrops DVD Templates into a graphics editing package, such as Adobe Photoshop, and discard or turn off the layers you don't need. Refer to your software manuals for more instruction.

SETTING THE MOTION VIDEO (MAIN MENU) IN ADOBE ENCORE DVD -- WATCH ADOBE ENCORE 1.5 DVD VIDEO TUTORIAL (w/audio)
Within Adobe Encore DVD, you have the ability to add video clips to buttons. On the PopDrops DVD Templates Main Menu templates we have included a large graphic (which is actually just a button) for you to drop video onto. Since this graphic is meant to be used as a motion menu and not necessarily a button, you'll need to manually set the routing for this button so it cannot be accessed with the DVD player remote control. The way this is accomplished is by manually routing the button to itself. For instance, if the button is #4, you'll want to make sure all the routing selections for that motion button are set to #4 and also confirm that no other buttons route to it. This creates the situation where the viewer cannot choose this button, but instead simply views it as a motion element.

WORKING WITH A POPDROPS DVD TEMPLATES MENU WITH 2 MOTION AREAS
Some PopDrops DVD Templates menus incorporate areas where more than 1 video clip is placed on the main menu. In this scenario, it is important that you create each video and audio clip to all match an exact length. This means that if your video clip is 30 seconds long, then you should create all video clips to be 30 seconds long. Audio should also be set to 30 seconds. Watch the following video to understand more about setting up this kind of motion menu.
WATCH ADOBE ENCORE 1.5 DVD VIDEO TUTORIAL (w/audio)    VIEW THE FINAL RESULT HERE

NOTE: the clip you'll use will need to be edited as its own independent video clip. This means you'll most likely want to create a 30-60 second video clip (in a program such as Adobe Premiere), including audio to be used for this piece. In Adobe Encore DVD, a video thumbnail plays within the boundaries of the menu duration setting. You set the menu display time and looping time of the video in the properties palette -- generally choosing the clip to loop forever so this video will loop indefinitely. Refer to your software manuals for more instruction.

USING STILL PHOTOS IN THE DROP ZONE AREA WITH CLIP MASKING -- WATCH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS VIDEO TUTORIAL (w/audio)
To clip mask your photo inside the (% video) layer choose Layer>Group with Previous (Photoshop 6 or 7) or Layer>Create Clipping Mask (Photoshop CS). To release the clipping mask select your photo layer and choose Layer>Ungroup (Photoshop 6 or 7) or Layer>Release Clipping Mask (Photoshop CS). ALT/OPTION clicking in-between the layer will also create a clipping mask. Refer to your software manuals for more instruction.

WORKING WITH INSERTS & LABELS

USING YOUR PHOTOS IN THE PHOTO ZONE WITH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP -- WATCH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS VIDEO TUTORIAL (w/audio)
You'll notice that in the PopDrops DVD Templates templates there is a default photo in the Photo Zone layer set. Our default photograph is actually "clip masked" inside of the (% video) layer. To add your own photo, simply open your new photo within Photoshop and drag the photo into the Photo Zone layer set dropping it in-between the default photo and the (% video) layer. You can now turn off or delete the default photo layer. Refer to your software manuals for more instruction.

PRINTING INSERTS & LABELS

SAVE YOUR DESIGN
Once you have finalized your design, you'll be ready to print but you should save your design first. We recommend saving your design first as a Photoshop file (.psd). This method provides the greatest degree of flexibility. You'll be able to edit this same design in the future and still have all the features that a fully-layered Photoshop file offers.

Once you've saved your master design, you'll want to flatten it (Layer/Flatten Image) and save it in the best format for your label program/printing needs - usually .jpg, .gif or .bmp. Refer to your software manuals for more instruction.

PRINTING CASE INSERTS

The PopDrop Case Inserts can accommodate several printing scenarios. You will print your case insert designs directly from Photoshop by choosing Print from the File menu.
Perforated DVD Stock (A4 Size)
The PopDrops DVD Templates designs work great with perforated case insert stock from manufacturers such as Meritline and NEATO. If you'll be using this type of perforated label stock, you will want to turn off/hide the mask layer in your design before you print. Note: If you do not turn this label off prior to printing you'll wind up with unnecessary crop marks on your final output.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to choose A4 as your paper size and Landscape as your orientation in Page Setup before printing.
WATCH VIDEO TUTORIAL (w/audio)

You may also receive a message that states "The image is larger than the paper's printable area; some clipping will occur" - this is expected behavior and you should continue by clicking the "Proceed" button.

Legal Stock (8.5" x 14" Size)
If you're using 8.5" x 14" legal-sized paper for final output, you'll want to keep the mask layer visible as it provides helpful crop lines that will aid you in trimming your case insert. You can print on legal-sized glossy photo paper or plain legal-sized paper. RedRiverCatalog.com has a 32lb. glossy inkjet photo paper that works well for printing DVD case insert designs.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to choose Legal 8.5" X 14" as your paper size and Landscape as your orientation in Page Setup before printing.

PRINTING DISC LABELS

Regardless of the label maker software you use, the PopDrops DVD Templates's Disc designs can easily be imported into most labeling software programs. After you've completely finalized your label design, flatten your design and save it (File/Save As) in a format that your label maker software can recognize. (usually .jpg, .gif or .bmp) NOTE: Prior to saving your Disc design as a flattened JPEG, be sure and turn OFF the "SAFE AREA" layer on the Disc Labels as it's a reference point and not meant to be printed. WATCH VIDEO TUTORIAL (w/audio)

Now, import your flattened design into your label maker program by specifying that it should be used as either a background or a picture depending on your labeling software. See the following links for examples of how to import and print your disc design in 2 of the more popular labeling programs.
